"Servant leadership is about creating an atmosphere of growth and service for everyone in an organization or community. It's about listening between the lines to build a vision everyone can own. It's about the subordination of self to meet the needs of others. It's about modeling what you want to see happen." - William B. Turner

The servant leadership philosophy is spreading throughout our community and our nation.

College Program

The Servant Leadership Program at Columbus State University is a four-year program designed to build a community of servant leaders through academic pursuit, personal reflection and engagement in the community. The program is a collaborative effort between the University, the Center for Servant Leadership at the Pastoral Institute and the broader local community. For a program description or to download an application, visit www.colstate.edu/servant.

The Center for Servant Leadership can provide resources and consultation to other institutions of higher education desiring to develop a Servant Leadership Program. For a listing of other Georgia universities and colleges promoting leadership based on the principles of servant leadership, visit the Georgia Servant Leadership Alliance website.

Community Events

The Center for Servant Leadership annually hosts a Servant Leadership Conference bringing renowned authors and speakers such as James Autry (The Servant Leader), Ken Blanchard (The Heart of Leadership), Parker Palmer (Leading from Within), John Izzo (Awakening Corporate Soul: Four Paths to Unleash the Power of People at Work) and Jim Hunter (The Servant) to the Columbus area to speak and teach on servant leadership.

In addition to our annual event, the Center for Servant Leadership sponsors Leadership Forums in which participants have the opportunity to talk with community leaders about their perspectives on leadership.
